Landslide at Cable Bay

Landslide!

“Matilda, Bea, wake up. There’s been a landslide.” Reluctantly we got up and saw it was early morning. Mum and Dad piggybacked us through the mud. It was everywhere and it looked like brown soup. The water was rushing down our steps. “Oh no,” I cried. Everything was covered in mud.

We clambered upstairs eager to find out what it looked like from up there.  I ran to Jemima’s room to tell her.  “Jemima, Jemima, wake up, look out the window”.  I opened the curtains to show her.  Mud, rocks and gorse were rushing down our concrete driveway.

A little later we heard rumble, rumble, a digger was coming.  It was Andrew coming to build a bund* to stop all the mud from coming on to our property.  Everyone was helping each other to protect their houses.

My cat was terrified.  He hated having wet and muddy paws.  When Mum brought him inside and wiped his paws, he went straight under her bed.

All day Matilda, Jemima and I played a lot of games to pass the time because we weren’t allowed outside.

Three months later and the road still isn’t back to normal.
